Bangalore: A scary weekend coupled with rain forced Bangaloreans to cuddle up in the comforts of their homes on Sunday.

It rained the whole of Sunday across the city uprooting trees and snapping power lines in several places.

Trees were uprooted in H.K. Garden, HAL 2nd Stage in Indiranagar, 9th Cross Malleswaram and 17th Cross in Malleswaram.

Power supply

In Malleswaram, two trees fell on power lines and vehicular movement was affected as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) personnel could not remove the uprooted trees till power supply was cut off by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company authorities.

Though the BBMP control rooms did not receive any rain-related complaints, low-lying areas, including Chandra Layout, Nayandanahalli on Mysore Road, Deepanjalinagar, Ranganathapura, parts of Kamakshipalya, Devarajeevanahalli, K.R. Garden, Manjunathnagar and Pushpanjalinagar, were inundated causing inconvenience to residents.

Several roads were water-logged affecting vehicular movement at the intersection of Shoolay Circle–Brigade Road, Magrath Road near the Football Stadium, Vasanthnagar Junction near Mount Carmel College, Shivajinagar bus stand area and St. John’s Road.

The Cauvery Junction underpass too was flooded putting motorists to hardship.

The Meteorological Department recorded 14.4 mm of rainfall in the city till 11.30 p.m. The city is likely to get more rain accompanied by strong and gusty winds at times, in the next 48 hours, the department officials said.
