dated July 29, 1958: Launch of space apparatus

Moscow Radio said on July 26 that for the first time in history, a radio sounding apparatus to measure changes in solar radiation was launched into space from a Soviet ship somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. The radio said the launching was made on July 24, from the research vessel Ob and added: “This opens new possibilities for science.”
