Kakinada: District Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi stressed the need to constitute village-level search and rescue teams to protect people and their properties during cyclones, floods and other emergencies. Training should be given to those coming forward to render their services so that they could be deployed in areas vulnerable to cyclones or other calamities. Inaugurating a training session in search and rescue activities and first aid methods at Indian Red Cross Society hospital here on Monday, he said teams of such trained personnel would be of great help not only in the coastal habitations but wherever any untoward incident takes places. In addition to training volunteers, the IRCS should organize similar events for the common people for the purpose of creating awareness which plays a crucial role in mitigating the losses. IRCS Coordinator (Disaster Management) P.V Prasad Goud said trainers from East Godavari, Srikakulam, Nellore, Prakasm and Kurnool districts were participating in the programme which would be followed by a field visit. IRCS district secretary P Durga Raju, executive committee members Jyothula Sitarama Murthy, M. Sriramachandra Murthy, Aluri Vijaya Lakshmi, Siva Ramakrishna and PSRK Timmaji Rao were present.
