Nagercoil: Heavy rains continued to lash various parts of the district for the second day on Tuesday. Water level in all tanks, ponds and dams is slowly increasing following the heavy rains. Catchement areas of the district witnessed heavy rains, which would be helpful for farmers of the tail end areas to undertake agricultural operations with out expecting water from the dams. Heavy rain lashed Nagercoil, Myladi, Kottaram and Boothapandi. Low-lying areas were flooded with rainwater posing hardship to the public. Many fishermen did not venture in to sea owing the rough weather. The tapping of rubber milk was also affected following the incessant rain. There was a heavy flow in Kuzuthurai, Pazahyaru and Valliyaru rivers owing to heavy rains in the catchment areas. The Pechipparai dam witnessed a raise of 6.45 feet in a single day. A maximum rainfall of 90 mm was recorded at Chittar II followed by 80 mm in Chittar I, 64.8 mm in Kottaram, 56.5 mm in Surulode, 44.3 mm in Nagercoil, 32.8 mm in Kottaram, 26.2 mm in Boothapandi, 25.8 mm in Aralvoimozhi and 18 mm in Mukkadal. The level in Pechipparai dam stood at 32 feet, 36.25 feet in Perunchani, 8.53 feet in Chittar I, 8.62 feet in Chittar II and 3.80 feet in Poigai dam.
