Kakinada: Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi on Tuesday instructed Agriculture Department officials to ensure smooth supply of fertilizers to farmers for the Kharif season and warned the dealers of stringent action for selling inferior quality fertilizers or selling above the MRP. Similarly, steps have to be taken to make other farm inputs of good quality available on time. Addressing a review meeting here on Tuesday, Mr. Dwivedi said failure to supply adequate quantities of fertilizers as and when the need arises, could lead to panic buying of the fertilizers. This would have serious consequences that were entirely avoidable if necessary action was taken in advance. The Collector said the State Government had recently released Rs 6 crore towards input subsidy to farmers whose crops were damaged in cyclones. Urgent action was required to disburse this sum to farmers so that they would be able to utilize the money for agricultural operations. Collective action has to be taken to alleviate their plight and achieve better yields by properly implementing the relevant action plans, Mr. Dwivedi added. Joint Director of Agriculture T Nandaiah, Deputy Director B Satyanarayana and others took part.
