Police ask people to be vigilant

Staff Correspondent

DAVANGERE: The Davangere police department, in the wake of the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, has issued a list of do’s and don’ts to the public.

Do’s

Inform the police control room if a suspicious or abandoned object is found. Evacuate the area till the police search the place. Move away in a calm and methodical manner. Do not create panic among the people.

Open all windows and doors if such objects are found in a room or hall. Put off the main power switch of the building.

Transfer gas cylinders, kerosene stoves and other inflammable articles from the building. Place sand bags around the object. Place it in such a way that it will be three times more than the height of the object. Cover the object with a “bomb blanket” if available.

Don’ts

Do not touch the object and do not crowd around it. Do not use radios or mobile phones near the object. Though the object may look like something ordinary it may not be.

The department has also instructed people to keep a watch on newcomers to their locality and inform the police if the movements or behaviour of any person is suspicious.

The public can call the police control room on 100 and 253100.
