Demand: BJP workers holding a demonstration at Tirthahalli in Shimoga district on Tuesday . TIRTHAHALLI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers held a demonstration here on Tuesday, condemning the recent blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad and in protest against the Centre’s “failure” to contain disruptive forces. They took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar urging the Centre to ensure effective steps to curb spread of terrorism. Later, former MLA from Tirthahalli Araga Jnanendra said at a public meeting that it was unfortunate that the Centre was drawing its feet on bringing in a stringent Act to curb terrorist activities. The only reason for this was that the terrorists belonged to a particular community, he said. No religion had taught violence and those who perpetrated violence could not claim to be the promoters of any religion, he said. Mr. Jnanendra said the National Democratic Alliance Government had succeeded to bringing in Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) to deal with the terrorist activities, but it was withdrawn by the United Progressive Alliance Government. He hoped that the Centre would reintroduce the Act in the wake of the blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad.
