dated July 30, 1958: Collective security

The Prime Minister of four Baghdad Pact States and the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Foster Dulles, on July 28 signed a declaration affirming their intention to maintain collective security and resist aggression. The declaration stated that the United States, which is not a full member of the Pact agreed to co-operate with the Baghdad Pact nations and would promptly enter into agreements designed to give effect to that co-operation. The Prime Ministers signing the declaration were Mr. Harold Macmillan (Britain), Mr. Adnan Menderes (Turkey), Malik Firoz Khan Noon (Pakistan) and Dr. Manuchar Eghbal (Iran). It recalled that Article One of the Baghdad Pact authorised the signatories to co-operate in the defence by any means including the conclusion of special agreements.
