Letters to the Editor
This refers to the BJP’s demand to bring back POTA to combat terror. Other than the draconian provision which provides for prolonged detention without framing charges, there is not much difference between POTA and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act which is in force. The BJP should stop misleading people by saying there is no stringent law to deal with terrorism. POTA was blatantly misused in Jharkhand and for settling political scores in other States. K.S. Chaitanya, Hyderabad What happened to those accused of demolishing the Babri Masjid, and for perpetrating the Gujarat riots and the Delhi anti-Sikh riots? We don’t need a new law; what we need is the political will to crush terrorism. N. Venkatesan, Pomona, California
