Ramadas scores hat-trick; G.K. Motors HC enters pre-quarterfinals

Madurai: A fine hat-trick by Ramadas helped G.K. Motors Hockey Club (Madurai) defeat Ramanathapuram District Hockey Association 4-1 and enter the pre-quarterfinals of the 16th annual Rajamani-Kanagamariammal Memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament at Police Centenary stadium here on Tuesday.

The results: GK Motors HC 4 (Ramdas 3 including a hat-trick, A.G. Kannan) bt Ramanathapuram DHA 1 (Saravanan); South Zone Police (Madurai) 3 (Devendran 2, Chandrasekar) bt Thirunagar HC 0; Ever Great HC (Vadipatti) 4 (Vellachamy 2, Ramachandran, Sethyaraj) bt St. Joseph’s College (Tiruchi) 1 (Loganathan) via tie-breaker, 1-1 in regular time; Income Tax RC (Chennai) 3 (Amarneethi, Rajendran, Rajasekar) bt FCI (Chennai) 0, via tie-breaker, goalless in regular time.

SIT in final

Sethu Institute of Technology (Kariapatti) and Sudharsan College of Engineering (Pudukottai) entered the final of the Anna University zone IX inter-collegiate cricket tournament defeating KLN College of Engineering by 90 runs and KLN CIT, Pottapalayam by eight wickets respectively at Karaikudi on Tuesday.

The scores: SIT (Kariapatti) 187 for two in 25 overs (Silambarasan 33, Umer 29, Packiaraj 65 n.o., Muthuraman 45 n.o.) bt KLN CE 97 for nine in 25 overs; KLN CIT 79 for eight in 25 overs lost to Sudharsan CE, Pudukottai 82 for two in 12.2 overs (Selvendran 32 n.o.).

Muthuraja hits hundred

An unbeaten century by Muthuraja helped Ramesh Flowers Cricket Club chalk out an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Kayal Sporting Club in the Canara Bank-TDCA league ‘B’ division at Tuticorin recently.

The scores:

‘A’ division: Analmin Nagar 173 for nine in 45 overs (Ramesh four for 43) lost to ASKR CC 174 for five in 32.5 overs (Sivalingam 54 n.o., Ramesh 51 n.o.); Gavaskar CC 162 in 39.3 overs bt Pusco CC 123 in 33.2 overs (Prabakar four for 25).

‘B’ division: Kayal Sporting Club 206 in 35 overs (Soofi 77, Abdin 48, Dharam four for 42) lost to Ramesh Flowers CC 207 for two in 33.1 overs (Muthuraja 105 n.o., Muthukumar 41); Youngs Star CC 155 for eight 35 overs (Baskar 43) lost to Kayal Sporting Club 156 for no loss in 32 overs (Abdeen 60 n.o., Adam 45, Soofi 42 n.o.).

MSSWB College retains title

MSS Wakfboard College retained the Rukmaniammal Memorial Cup defeating American College 2-0 in the final of the Madurai Kamaraj University ‘A’ zone inter-Collegiate badminton tournament at Madurai on Monday.

The results (final): MSSWB bt American College 2-0 (A. Kabeer bt Dominic 21-17, 21-12; P.L. Rajusekar bt Aravind Kumar 21-7, 21-13).

Semifinals: MSSWB bt Madurai Kamaraj University 2-0; American College bt Thiagarajar College 2-0.

Madura triumphs

Madura College won the men’s title defeating CPA College (Bodinackanur) 3-1, while Fatima College won the women’s title defeating EMG Yadava women’s College 3-0 in the finals of the Madurai Kamaraj University Champion Trophy table tennis tournament at the University indoor stadium at Madurai on Tuesday.

The results:

Men: Final: Madura College bt CPA College (Bodinackanur) 3-1 (Sureshkumar bt Vetrivendan 11-3, 11-3, 11-6; Praveen bt Arun Pandian 11-6, 11-3, 11-7; Prasanth lost to Nagarajan 7-11, 5-11, 5-11; Sureshkumar bt ArunPandian 11-3, 11-8, 11-4.

Semifinals: Madura College bt Subbalakshmi Laxmipathy College 3-0; CPA College bt ANJA College Sivakasi 3-0.

Women: Final: Fatima College bt EMG Yadava Women’s College 3-0 (S. Kavitha bt N. Neepha 11-9, 12-10, 7-11, 11-7; Gokila bt Rahamath Nisha 11-6, 11-9, 11-3; Jayanthi Mayil bt Sandhya 11-4, 11-7, 11-4.)

Semifinals: EMG Yadava Women’s College bt Sourashtra Women’s College 3-1; Fatima College bt Madura College 3-1.

VHN MHSS in semifinals

Virudhunagar Hindu Nadar MHSS entered the semifinals of the Joseph Memorial Cup district-level inter-school volleyball tournament defeating host Xavier MHSS 25-9, 25-10 at Madurai on Tuesday.

Other results: Quarterfinals: Mangayarkarasi HSS bt EBG MHSS 25-20, 25-21; American College HSS bt Mahatma Montessori MHSS (Surveyar Colony) 25-9, 25-20; St. Mary of Leuca w/o St. Britto HSS.
