Six held on charge of abduction

CHENNAI: Six persons who abducted a teenager for ransom were arrested here on Tuesday. Police rescued the victim unhurt.
According to police, S. Krishnan (21) of Nerkundram and his brother, S. Rameshwar (15) were walking along the road near Koyambedu on Monday night when a six-member gang that came in a share-auto attacked them. The gangsters abducted Rameshwar in the vehicle.
A little later, the family members of the boy received a call from one of the kidnappers who demanded Rs.15,000 for the release of the boy. While negotiating the ransom for Rs. 6,000, they alerted police about the incident.
Mr. Krishnan, who lodged a police complaint, was told to hand over the money to the kidnappers at the pre-determined place near Jai Nagar. While the accused came there, policemen who were hiding in the locality in plainclothes surrounded them.
The accused were identified as P. Kalimuthu (46), M. Hariraman (27), P. Thangaraj (25), P. Vadivelu (24) P. Jayapaul (24) and P. Parameswaran (23).
They were produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
