SOCIAL SERVICE: Students participating in a mass cleaning programme at Mamallapuram organised by the TTDC on Tuesday.
MAMALLAPURAM: As part of the ‘Virundhinar Potrudhum Virundhinar Potrudhum’ campaign launched by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), a mass cleaning programme was held at Mamallapuramon Tuesday.
Assembling before the Mamallapuram special town panchayat office, National Service Scheme volunteers of the University of Madras, field staff of the panchayat and Tourism Department officials embarked on the programme to keep the tourist spot “clean and green.”
Earlier, the students took out a silent march carrying placards that read “Plant more trees” and “Let us not litter and spoil our town’s glitter and keep the town clean and green.” It was flagged off by TTDC chairman Sanwat Ram.
Leading the initiative was Tourism and Culture Department Secretary V. Irai Anbu, who administered a special pledge to the participants. He said it was the duty of every citizen to protect and preserve the ancient sculptures at the tourist spot.
