reaching out: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu addressing people as part of his ‘Mee Kosam Yatra’ in Mahabubnagar on Tuesday. MAHABUBNAGAR: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu attributed the present crisis in the power sector to the inefficient rule of the Congress government. Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Naidu, who came here as part of his ‘Mee Kosam Yatra’ said that during his tenure the government developed the entire infrastructure such as setting up gas-based power plants and tied up with ONGC and other private agencies to explore gas. But he said the Rajasekhara Reddy government has delayed gas exploration. He said that though there was scant rainfall during some years in his tenure, his government could produce sufficient power by all means. But he added that the present government could not invest a single rupee for generation of additional power. He said that the State government failed even to get additional quota of power from the Centre while Tamil Nadu government could obtain it. Mr. Naidu alleged that the State government was unable to face even the scarcity of fertilizer, water and other basic needs of the people. Substandard riceContinuing his tirade against the Congress government, he said that it was all set to stop the midday meal scheme to schoolchildren. “It has already stopped in some areas,” he said. He alleged that substandard rice was being supplied to mid-day meal scheme and the government failed to pay salaries to workers involved in the scheme. Referring to the Chief Minister’s criticism against him, Mr. Naidu said that Dr. Reddy’s outburst against him was due to utter frustration.
