NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party will demand, at the first meeting of the special parliamentary committee on the cash-for-votes scandal on Wednesday, that all seven members be allowed to view the video footage of the sting operation. “We should be given copies of the footage so that we can see the tapes properly, said BJP member on the panel V.K. Malhotra. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has begun processing petitions by several political parties for disqualification of their MPs who defied the whip on July 22, when the confidence motion moved by the Prime Minister was put to vote. Letters are being sent to each of these MPs, including eight from the BJP, six from the Samajwadi Party, and one each from the Shiv Sena, the Biju Janata Dal, the Janata Dal (Secular) and the Telugu Desam Party, asking for their comments. Copies of the disqualification petitions submitted to the Speaker are being enclosed, Lok Sabha Secretary-General P.D.T. Achary said. The parties have also demanded that the issue of disqualification be settled at the earliest.
