WFL launched

HYDERABAD: “Give the youth a chance,” said Chris Cairns, brand ambassador for the World Future League (WFL), which was launched here on Tuesday.

“This league is without prejudice, the purest form of cricket,” the former captain of New Zealand said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

“With the emergence of Twenty20, the game has grown by leaps and bounds. The WFL is a wonderful initiative and a stepping stone for the youth of the world,” the acclaimed all-rounder added.

Promoted by Steel Exchange India Limited, a Vizag Profiles Group company along with Global Entertainment Network, the WFL seeks to provide opportunities for talented youth aged between 14 and 17 years.

Joseph Rego, CEO, WFL, said the idea emanated from the children he watched playing on the beaches of Barbados during the World Cup, who showed the potential of a Lara or a Marshall.

Squads of 15 from Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka will meet for the WFL T20 Asia Cup to be played under floodlights at the Lal Bahadur Stadium, Hyderabad from January 19 to 24 next year.

Associated with the programme for the Indian Leopards is Stuart Binny, Abdul Razzaq for the Pakistan Tigers, former Sri Lankan skipper Hashan Tillakaratne and Russel Arnold with the Lankan Lions. — Special Correspondent
