Hoardings, banners banned for now
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: No more banners, buntings, cut-outs in Bangalore city, at least for the time being.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a notification in this connection following the State Government’s instructions.
The Government directive came after the issue of illegalities in the BBMP’s advertisement department was raised by the Opposition in the Legislative Council recently.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had replied that issuance of advertising licences would be stopped and the existing advertising policy reviewed.
The notification said that henceforth permission would not be granted to install or display flex-boards, banners, buntings and cut-outs for any occasion, including public meetings, birthday celebrations, festivals and religious functions.
The BBMP has also stopped issuing licence for installation or display of commercial hoardings or self-advertising boards.
Existing display hoardings or installations would be permitted only till the expiry of the licences, according to the BBMP.
The notification has asked all advertising agencies to compulsorily display the licence validity date on hoardings.
