National Book Trust gets new office

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The National Book Trust’s new office premises will be inaugurated at 5 Institutional Area in Vasant Kunj here this Friday on the occasion of its 51st Foundation Day.

Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh is expected to inaugurate Nehru Bhawan. Seven titles in various Indian languages and one in English will be released on the occasion.

The golden jubilee anthologies to be released include “Drishyantar”, an anthology of Marathi poetry; “Paridrishya”, an anthology of Marathi short stories; “Sakh Bharay Sabad”, an anthology of Rajasthani poetry; “Pirah Khan Poi”, an anthology of Sindhi poetry; “Azadi Taun Baad Di Punjabi Kahani”, an anthology of Punjabi short stories; and “Both Sides of the Sky”, an anthology of English poetry.

A decade after the country attained independence, National Book Trust-India was established. Since then, the autonomous organisation under the Human Resource Development Ministry has made a steady progress in accordance with the vision of the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru – “to disseminate book culture in society”.

To celebrate its golden jubilee celebrations, the NBT’s yearlong book-related activities started on August 1 last year. Numerous seminars, book fairs and exhibitions focusing on Indian publishing have been held across the country as part of the special celebrations.

The NBT is a highly professional multi-lingual publishing institution working for dissemination of book culture.
