46 films to be screened at Trivandrum film festival

The festival, to be held from August 1 to 7, will have films from 24 countries


Thiruvananthapuram: Forty-six films from 24 countries will be screened at the 13th Trivandrum International Film Festival beginning here on August 1 under the auspices of the Chalachitra Film Society.

The week-long event will feature films like KATYN (Andrzej Wadja, Poland), Relatives (Istvan Szabo, Hungary), Departed (Martin Scorsese, USA), Eastern Promises (David Cronenberg, Canada-UK), Letters from Iwo Jima (Clint Eastwood, USA), Naalu Pennungal (Adoor Gopalakrishnan, India ), Death of a President (Gabriel Range, USA), The Happening (Manoj N. Shyamalan, USA), Waiter (Alex von Warmerdam, Netherlands), Wet Dreams (Poran Derekhshandeh, Iran), Sakaman Maluwa (Sumitra Peries, Sri Lanka), Mirror Image (Prasanna Vithanage, Sri Lanka), Blood Diamond (Edward Zwick, Germany), Tsotsi (Gavin Hood, South Africa), Kudha Keliye (Shoib Mansoor, Pakistan), The Kingdom (Peter Berg, Germany-USA) and On the Other Side of the Bridge (Hu Mei, Austria).

Chalachitra president G. Rajamohan told a press conference here on Wednesday that seven films from six Asian countries would be screened. Another seven films which competed for the Oscar and Golden Globe series in 2007 and 2008 would also be shown.

The Retrospective section will feature eight films directed by renowned Israeli filmmaker Dan Wolman. These include Foreign Sister, Baby Love, The Distance, Floch, My Michael, Ben’s Biography and Spoken with Love. Mr. Wolman would be the chief guest of the festival. His film titled Tied Hands has been selected for the inaugural show. Six popular Indian films- Jodha Akbar, Bhima, Aamir, Note Book, Chocolate and Jab We Meet will be screened. A separate package of five films is to be screened to celebrate the 60th year of Sri Lankan cinema. The films will be screened at Kala Bhavan and Tagore theatres.
