My Mother’s Laptop In the film My Mother’s Laptop directed by Rupesh Paul, the protagonist Ravi (Suresh Gopi) is guilt-ridden as he has been unable to reciprocate his mother’s love. But actor Suresh Gopi’s body language is inadequate to convey Ravi’s emotional state. While portraying Ravi’s childhood, several shots are repeated. The filmmaker could have been a bit more imaginative in this aspect. The script is by Indu Menon based on a story written by Subhash Chandran. Ravi works as a theatre director in Kolkata. His lover Payal (Padmapriya) is a theatre actor. Many years have passed since Ravi came to Kolkata leaving his mother alone at their ancestral home in Kerala. He had never gone back. Now, he yearns to see his mother and ask for her forgiveness for neglecting her. Ravi remembers the happy childhood spent with his mother (Swetha Menon). These memories give a hint of the Oedipus complex in Ravi’s attachment to his mother. Evidently, Ravi seeks motherly care and affection from Payal too. But when Ravi finally returns home, he finds his mother in a coma in a hospital. How this affects his life forms the rest of the story. V. Vinod’s camera has captured some spectacular visuals. Lyrics of Rafeek Ahamed and Rita Paul are set to music by Sreevalsan J.Menon. My Mother’s Laptop has been produced under the banner of Mother Movies. G.Jayakumar
