Sirsa: Shopkeepers of Kalanwali town in the district on Wednesday observed a bandh to protest police inaction against extortionists. Besides downing the shutters of their shops, the traders staged a protest march and also blocked the Kalanwali-Dabwali road as part of the bandh. They complained that “goonda elements” came to their shops, picked up things at will and refused to pay. The traders also alleged that they had been asked to be ready to pay them an amount on a weekly basis (hafta) or face the consequences.
