NEW DELHI: Even six years after power privatisation in the Capital, the citizens continue to suffer long power cuts and the distribution companies are not made to pay for the deficiency in service as had been provided for in the agreement and the separate law enacted by the Delhi Government, charged BJP general secretary Vijay Goel on Wednesday. In a statement, the former Union Minister said Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit should tell the people the truth about the whole matter as power cuts continue and even the Supreme Court has severely reprimanded the Delhi Government over the issue. Mr. Goel said even Union Minister of State for Power Jairam Ramesh had told Delhi Power Minister A.K. Walia that the discoms were selling Delhi’s share of power to other States at higher rates and this was depriving the local population of much-needed electricity. He said the Union Minister had also directed the Delhi Minister to initiate action against the power companies, but nothing had been done. He alleged that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission that had been set up for hearing problems of harassed electricity consumers and to redress their grievances had not served the “interests of the public”.
