Punjab MLA seeks Central rule

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: A legislator representing Qila Raipur constituency of Ludhiana district in the Punjab Assembly has sought Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s direct intervention for immediate deployment of Intelligence Bureau and CBI to stop “bloodshed” by a “totalitarian” Akali-BJP regime engaged in “blatant suppression, intimidation and manipulation”.

In a letter to Dr. Singh, copies of which were released to reporters here on Wednesday, Jasbir Singh Khangura , an NRI hotelier-turned-politician, said that in 1983, under different circumstances, it took the loss of four innocent lives to impose President’s Rule in Punjab.

However, in the past 17 months more lives had been lost on account of political action, Mr. Khangura said, adding that there was need impose Central Rule since elections to the State Assembly were fast approaching.
