Bhagora undergoes heart surgery

JAIPUR: Mahaveer Bhagora, who was under the spotlight last week in connection with alleged attempts to purchase MPs for the trial of strength on the motion of confidence in Parliament, underwent a heart by-pass operation in an Ahmedabad hospital on Wednesday.

Mr. Bhagora, 60, was first admitted to Maharana Bhupal Hospital in Udaipur on Tuesday after complaints of chest pain. Later he was taken to Ahmedabad on experts’ advice.

Talking from Udaipur on phone, Mr. Bhagora’s son Asish said on Wednesday evening that the family back home was waiting for a word about his father, who underwent by-pass surgery in Ahmedabad’s SAL Hospital during the day. Asish’s elder brother Nirbhay, his wife and some other family members are in the hospital with the MP from Salumber (ST).

Asish said his father -- one of the three BJP MPs who waved wads of currency notes in Parliament protesting against alleged attempts to “purchase” them -- was back in Udaipur from Delhi a day after the vote of confidence. “He was back to his normal routine. On Monday he visited Gogunda tehsil, part of his constituency some 40 km from here, and was back home by evening. On Tuesday morning he complained of body pain and I gave him a massage but things worsened,” he observed.
