SEEKING ROAD SAFETY: Residents of Kangeyampalayam Road, near Periyathottam, in Tirupur block road demanding speed breakers following the death of a motorist on Tuesday. —
Tirupur: Nearly 400 residents of Kangeyampalayam Road, near Periyathottam, and members of the Tamil Nadu Thowheeth Jama-ath and Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam blocked Kangeyaem Road on Tuesday demanding setting up of speed breakers to ensure road safety.
They road blockade was staged following the death of S. Mohammed (60), a hosiery unit employee, who was fatally knocked down by a speeding lorry on Tuesday morning.
Accusing rash and negligent driving by drivers heavy vehicles on the stretch, they demanded that speed breakers be put up immediately to end road accidents.
The Revenue and police officials held talks with the agitators and promised that speed breakers would be put up within a week.
Following the assurance, the agitators lifted the road blockade.
