Mithali named skipper

BANGALORE: Mithali Raj will lead the Indian women’s team during its tour of England from August 26 to September 9. The team was selected by the women’s selection committee that met at the National Cricket Academy here on Wednesday.

The BCCI secretary, Niranjan Shah, convened the meeting and the selectors — Anju Jain, Poornima Rau, Mithu Mukherjee, Vrinda Bhagat and Sandhya Agarwal — opted for a 15-member squad with Shanta Rangaswamy as coach.

The squad: Mithali Raj (capt.), Jhulan Goswami, Jaya Sharma, Karuna Jain, Sulakshana Naik, Hemlata Kala, Rumeli Dhar, Asha Rawat, Priyanka Roy, Devika Palshikar, Neetu David, Seema Pujare, Gauhar Sultan, Amita Sharma and Snehal Pradhan; Coach: Shanta Rangaswamy; Manager: Sandhya Agarwal.

The schedule: Aug. 30: First ODI at Bath; Sept. 1: Second ODI, Somerset; Sept. 4: Third ODI, Somerset; Sept. 5: T20, Somerset; Sept. 7: Fourth ODI, Arundel; Sept. 9: Fifth ODI, Sussex. — Principal Correspondent
