Lop-sided matches on rain-hit day

MYSORE: On yet another truncated day, lop-sided matches marked the Raghuveer Tennis Academy’s AITA Talent Series (under-14 & 18) tournament here on Wednesday. Overnight rains delayed the start and another spell of heavy showers cut the day’s schedule early in the afternoon.

Despite the damp conditions, S.D. Prajwal Dev, the second seed in the boys’ under-14 event, showed no mercy as he blanked T. Vibuvarsh 6-0, 6-0 to move into the second round.

The young lad played some solid ground strokes and maintained a relentless pace against his hapless rival.

Easing home

The other seeded players who posted easy wins included the third seed Mahesh Bathija and the sixth-seeded M.S. Rakshith.

Despite getting an extra day to clear the backlog, the organisers face a stiff task. It is likely that the remaining ties, at least up to the quarterfinals, will be played on a best-of-17 format.
