MANGALORE: A police team raided the house of Vaidyanath Suvarna in Narimogaru village in Puttur Town Police station limits on Tuesday and seized illicit liquor. Deer rescued
A barking deer which was kept in the house was also rescued. The team was headed by Puttur sub-division Assistant Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal. Mr. Goyal told The Hindu that the team found the six-month-old barking deer in a cage. As it was illegal to keep or breed the animal, Mr. Goyal said the police had registered a case against the accused under Schedule III (5) of the Wildlife Protection Act. Mr. Goyal said the police recovered 180 litres of spirit, an equal quantity of toddy, 2,000 empty bottles, a weighing machine, 30 kg of colouring agents, 79 bottles (each 180 ml) filled with illicit liquor, and one pick-up truck from the place, all together worth Rs. 1.70 lakh.
