People urged to stay alert by Collector

Staff Reporter

Call police if suspicious persons found

TIRUCHI: In the wake of serial bomb blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad, the district administration has advised the public to pass on information about people moving in a suspicious manner on the following numbers: 0431–2333613 / 2333629 / 2333609. Collector T. Soundiah assured that the identity of the caller would be kept confidential.

Chairing a meeting of senior officials of Police, Fire and Rescue Services, Social Welfare, Transport and Education departments on Tuesday to discuss precautionary measures, Mr. Soundiah emphasised on the following measures.

Public must immediately inform the police control room if they come across any suspicious or abandoned objects or two-wheelers, four-wheelers or vans parked for long duration. The public could pass on information to police in case they receive any short messaging service regarding bombs along with the sender’s number. Information about movement of strangers in the vicinity of transformers, water pumping stations and overhead tanks should also be provided to the control room.

The district administration, police department and other government wings were taking precautionary measures, and the public should extend their fullest cooperation to curb extremist activities, the Collector requested.
