Man killed in motorcycle accident

TAMBARAM:A 45-year-old man died on Wednesday after he sustained head injuries when he fell from a motorcycle on the Velachery Main Road in Pallikaranai on Tuesday night. Police said S.Arumugham was a construction worker and a resident of Alwarpet. He was travelling on the motorcycle to a relative’s house in Pallikaranai to inform them about the death of a family member.

At Mylai Balaji Nagar, he lost control of the two-wheeler when he applied brakes to avoid hitting a herd of cattle that was crossing the road at that point. He fell, dashed against the median and sustained head injuries. He was rushed to a private hospital in Pallikaranai, where he succumbed to injuries on Wednesday morning.

Woman hacked to death

A 34-year-old woman was hacked to death by her husband at their house in Saroj Nagar in Madipakkam on Wednesday.

Manjula of Vatlagundu, married Prakash Kumar, a Central government employee in 1995. The couple, who have two children, are reported to have quarrelled with each other frequently. On Wednesday morning, Prakash Kumar sent his children to school, returned home and picked a quarrel with his wife. In a fit of rage, he picked up a kitchen knife and attacked Manjula on her face, head and neck and she died instantly.

The Madipakkam police arrested Prakash Kumar from Eachangadu near Madipakkam.

Suitcase missing

Ajay Kumar, a 30-year-old Army personnel from Punjab, has complained to the Government Railway Police in Tambaram that Rs.50,000 in cash was missing from his suitcase.

After training at the Army Camp in Pallavaram, Ajay Kumar boarded a train at the Tirusulam Railway Station and when he got down at Park Town, he found his suitcase missing. He returned to Tirusulam but could not trace it.

Police located the suitcase lying broken near the Tirusulam hillocks. Investigations are on.
