CBWE gearing up for golden jubilee fete

10 national-level workshops planned to mark the occasion


Tribal workers’ meet at Paloncha on August 8

Regional seminars also to be held


VIJAYAWADA: As a part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Central Board for Workers’ Education (CBWE), an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Labour & Employment, its regional unit, will conduct a conference on ‘tribal workers and role of workers education’ at Paloncha in Khammam district on August 8.

CBWE Regional Advisory Board chairman and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) State vice-president S. Raghavaraju said that the CBWE would be completing 50 years of foundation in September, 2008. To celebrate the golden jubilee, 10 national-level workshops and 50 regional-level seminars were being organised.

As the regional directorate conducted more number of awareness programmes for the unorganised tribal population, the board decided to conduct the seminar on unorganised tribal workers, he said.

The objective

The objective of training programmes was to develop stronger and more responsible trade unions and promote the growth of democratic process in trade union organisation and administration. The training programmes would also equip the organised labour to take its place in a democratic society and inculcate in them the spirit of commonality of interests, he said, adding that based on the problems identified by the Education Officer, the CBWE, in consultation with the local body, would design and conduct the training programmes, he said.

Training

CBWE Vijayawada Directorate Education Officer B. Venkat Rao said that the board’s training programmes cover workers of organised, unorganised, rural and informal sectors.

Supervisory and managerial cadres were also covered through joint education programmes.

R. Venkat Rao, Deputy Director in the Industries Department, AP Small Scale Industries Association president Y.V. Krishna Mohan, CBWE Education Officers Nazir, S. V.Prasad and others also spoke.
