Kolkata: Amid a fresh bomb scare in the city, the West Bengal government on Wednesday swung into action arresting persons for their alleged involvement in Tuesday evening’s e-mail threat, reinforcing regulations on cyber-cafes and putting in place a rescue plan should any blast take place. State chief secretary Ashoke Mohan Chakraborty, told reporters that the police had been asked to be ready for any eventuality. A task force had been set up to tackle cyber crime. The State government re-issued a circular on cyber cafes, saying that its violation would attract penal provisions of the IPC. “I will be conducting surprise checks at cyber cafes and shopping malls to check whether the seven-point directives were being followed by cyber-café owners.” A hoax mail threat received by some news channels on Tuesday said key installations across the city and the prestigious Salt Lake area would be bombed at 10 p.m. The owner of a cyber café in Salt Lake from where the mail was believed to have emanated was picked up and remanded to 14-day police custody. A woman believed to be the cyber café owner’s maid but described as computer-proficient by the police, has been detained for interrogation.
