THIRUVANANTHPURAM: Elaborate security arrangements have been made by the police at Parasurama Swamy Temple, Thiruvallam; Shanghumughom beach; Janardhana Swamy Temple, Varkala; and major temples in the city and the suburbs for conducting annual rituals in connection with the ‘Karkidaka Vavu Bali’ on Friday. Around 300 police personnel will be deployed at Thiruvallam and Shanghumughom, where large number of devotees flock to perform the rituals, and other eight locations in the city. Elaborate arrangements have been made for the smooth flow of vehicular traffic, crowd control and to prevent crime at these locations. Anti-sabotage checks will be carried out in view of the prevailing security situation in connection with the blasts in Bangalore and Gujarat, City Police Commissioner Ravada Azad Chandrasekhar said.
The Assistant Commissioners of Police, Fort and Shanghumughom will be in charge of the security arrangements in Thiruvallam and Shanghumughom respectively. The Deputy Commissioner of Police will also be stationed in Thiruvallam as it is the main centre in the city for the ritual. Around 160 police personnel will be deployed at Shanghumughom. Lifeguards have been posted on the beaches.
