NEW DELHI: The Executive Council of Delhi University has ratified the new guidelines for Ph.D. registration of students. It has also approved fusion of the syllabus of B.A. (Hons) and B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics to give way to a single B.Sc. degree in that subject. These two decisions had already been taken by the Academic Council recently. The Executive Council was also of the view that the University was free to take legal action against Atul Razdan, a teacher who was found guilty by the Apex Complaints Committee in a case of sexual harassment. The Council had last year recommended that the services of Mr. Razdan, a senior lecturer in the Mathematics Department, be terminated. Thereafter he moved court demanding that he be given a copy of the report that indicted him and other related documents. “The University wrote to him many times asking him to come over and inspect the records and collect the documents he wanted to. But he never turned up despite repeated reminders. On Tuesday, the opinion of the House was that the University must now seek legal opinion in this matter and that the authorities may proceed in that direction,” said an Executive Council member. The members also raised the issue of a college Principal who has been accused of plagiarism by another researcher. “So far, no documents pertaining to this allegation have been submitted. Vice-Chancellor Deepak Pental has assured that if some relevant documents are provided the case would be examined,” said another member. At the meeting, there was also a mention of the case of an evening college Principal who has been accused of financial bungling. “The Governing Body of that college has recommended the Principal’s suspension, but the University authorities have not taken any step so far,” claimed a member.
