Matric exam top ten list recast

Correspondent

Four more students find place among the rank-holders

BSE draws flak for the goof-up

The number of top ten now goes up to 26

CUTTACK: After more than one month of publication of State Matriculation examination-2008 results, the State Board of Secondary Education (BSE) was on Thursday forced to recast the prestigious toppers’ list of the examination. Four more students, two each from Berhampur and Cuttack schools, found place among the rank holders after revaluation and re-addition of their answer sheets, BSE sources said.

While Ashis Padhy and Akankshya Biswal of Saraswati Vidya Mandir of Berhampur have made it to the prestigious list, Sandeep Acharya and Biswajit Dalei of Cuttack-based Secondary Board School are the other two proud students. Ashis and Biswajit are now also ranked joint fourth with 756 marks along with three others who were placed in this slot previously.

Similarly, Akankshya and Sandeep securing 755 marks now share the joint fifth position along with two previous students.

Surprisingly, all these four students were awarded only 30 marks in compulsory mathematics papers out of a hundred. But after revaluation, these students have either secured 99 or 100 in the paper.

Instead of 22, the number of students placed in top ten rank holders of this year’s Matriculation examination now goes to 26 of which 19 are boys.

Accordingly, of these rank holders, as many as 17 are now from private schools, including 15 from Sisu Vikash Samiti run Saraswati Vidya Mandirs.

Even as the BSE on Thursday tried its best to give justice to the four deserving students by recasting the top ten lists, yet it came under flak for the goof-up. “Although, the hike in our marks and the positions allotted to us would now help us to boost our career, we were deprived of the initial honour that was due to us at the time of publication of result last month,” the four students rue.

Since the publication of results on June 25, the initial 22 rank holders have received more than a dozen felicitations and awards from several organizations. “But for the fault of BSE, I was deprived of these honours and those proud moments,” said one of the students.
