Bangalore: People have sat up and started to take note of what is happening in neighbourhood schools in the wake of a report in these columns on Wednesday highlighting the plight of students of Camlin English School in RPC Layout, Vijayanagar. The students were made to sit out in the draughty basement for eight hours because their parents did not attend the parent-teacher meeting to collect their wards’ progress report on Saturday. MLA M. Krishnappa, on Thursday, visited the school and met with the school authorities. He told The Hindu the school authorities showed him the regulations that had been printed in the school diary. “They told me that the parents knew about the rules and that they provided ‘disciplined education’. However, they admitted that it was a mistake to let the children sit in the auditorium for that long,” he said. Mr. Krishnappa said that parents should follow the rules. “Anyway, I have written to Commissioner of Department of Public Instruction Kumar G. Naik and urged him to initiate action against the school. I have also warned the school authorities to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” he added. Mr. Naik said that the department had received a report from the Block Education Officer concerned.
