Jaunpur: A criminal, on whom a cash reward of Rs. 20,000 was announced, was killed in an encounter with police near Chandpur village here this morning. Following a tip off, a joint team of the Special Operation Group and the district police stopped the criminal and his accomplice, who opened fire in retaliation, Superintendent of Police Ram Nihar Verma said. Vinay Singh, involved in over a dozen cases of murder and loot, was killed in the encounter, the SP said, adding that his accomplice, however, managed to escape.
