Walkout over property tax revision
Staff Reporter
KARUR: Karur Municipality has decided on a 25 per cent across-the-board hike in property tax for all buildings from April this year.
Agitated AIADMK councillors complained that already people were suffering due to climbing inflation and could bear the hike no more.
They staged a walkout before joining the discussions again during the council meeting here on Wednesday.
Chairperson P. Sivakamasundari presided over the meeting in which vice-chairman SP. Kanagaraj and Commissioner R. Ramani participated.
The council took up for discussion the issue of property tax revision and a subject on the note stated that the tax on residential property, industrial property and commercial complexes be raised by 25 per cent, industrial units by 100 per cent and commercial complexes by 125 per cent.
