Chief Minister reviews progress of housing scheme 4,000 acres acquired in all for construction HYDERABAD: Houses, being constructed by the government under Rajiv Swagruha scheme for salaried and middle-class families in the State, will have to be handed over to beneficiaries next year. Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy fixed this deadline while reviewing the progress of the scheme here on Thursday. He asked officials to see that the applicants secured the house/flat under the scheme at a rate that was 20-25 per cent less than that in the open market. Speaking to reporters later, Housing Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said 4,000 acres had been acquired at various places by AP Rajiv Swagruha Corporation to go ahead with the construction of the houses fulfilling the dreams of middle-class families to have a dwelling in an urban area where they lived. Where lands were not available, private developers would be involved through PPP mode to get the sites from individuals. Tenders finalisedThe Minister said tenders for construction of 12,000 out of the 48,000 houses initially planned at Hyderabad had been finalised and the process would be taken up now for the rest of the houses. He said the possibility of using pre-fabricated structures was being explored, but subject to approval by expert committee formed to testify the quality. A sum of Rs. 38.33 crore had been collected towards 25 per cent cost of the dwelling units taken up Hyderabad and other places and seeing this, banks had readily offered assistance.
