BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday assured the members in the Legislative Council that the Government would constitute a task force to implement the report of the A.T. Ramaswamy Committee, which went into encroachment of government lands in and around Bangalore. The report is now with Speaker Jagadish Shettar. Replying to the discussions on the State Budget in the House, the Chief Minister said that the task force would work towards the Government taking control of the encroached lands some of which had also been classified as prime land. The Chief Minister had told the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that the Government needed the cooperation of the Opposition to auction the encroached lands and thereafter utilise the funds generated for development purposes. In another important announcement as part of the reply to the budget, the Chief Minister said the Government would re-examine the proposal made in the budget to extend tax concessions for re-make Kannada films. The Government would hold discussions with members of the film industry in this connection. He said the Government would release Rs. 25 crore to take up urgent development projects in Kodagu district. Replying to questions on free power for irrigation pumpsets up to 10 hp capacity, Mr. Yeddyurappa made it clear that farmers would get free power only after they allowed the installation of meters.
