Combing operation in Western Ghats

Staff Reporter

SRIVILLIPUTTUR: The Virudhunagar police conducted a combing operation in the jungles of Western Ghats on Wednesday.

“It is a regular practice session of trekking for our men to get familiar with the hilly terrain. This is the second such session which also doubles up as a combing operation,” the Srivilliputtur DSP, V.M. Shahul Hameed, told The Hindu.

Two batches of police started their trekking from Pilavakkal dam, one towards Pottamparai and another towards Pattupoochi Pannai. The team also comprised ‘Q’ branch personnel who interacted with residents of hamlets en route. “This helps to gather intelligence on movement of strangers and unwanted elements in forest area,” he added.

The combing operation also gains significance in the light of forthcoming Adi Amavasai festival at the Sri Sundara Mahalingam Temple in the Western Ghats.
