One person reportedly missing in Makkandur Talacauvery recorded 140. 2 mm of rain in the last 24 hours Madikeri: Rain lashing Kodagu for the last one week abated in many parts of the district, triggering landslips in areas such as Chettalli, according to information received /here Thursday. Flood threat that loomed large in the last few days has receded for the time being in the district. One person from Megathalu village in the Makkandur gram panchayat limits in Madikeri taluk is reported missing since Wednesday morning. Residents of the villages are said to have found a shirt and chappals of the missing person, Thammaiah alias Ravi (35), near the Tantipala river at Makkandur. Police, residents of villages and divers are said to be searching the swollen river on the presumption that Thammaiah could be drowned in the river. A body was found floating at a small distance away from the spot where the shirt and chappals were found on Thursday afternoon, but its identity is yet to be confirmed, a source from the Madikeri rural police station said on Thursday. Talacauvery recorded the highest of 140. 2 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours followed by Bhagamandala (116.6 mm), Srimangala (106.4 mm), Kutta (95 mm), Madikeri (84 mm), Somwarpet (68.2 mm), Napoklu (62.6 mm), Shanivarasante (61.4 mm), Virajpet (37.4 mm) and Ponnampet (32 mm). Huge mounds of earth have come down on the Madikeri-Chettalli road, about eight km from here. However, the debris did not fall on to the road disrupting road traffic. A small slip further could block the road. The Chettalli Falls, although would not match the splendour of Abby Falls or Irpu Falls, has been catching the attention of the passersby on the same road. The Cauvery continues its flow full as is Lakshmanateertha river in southern parts of the district. Vast areas of paddy fields are still submerged under Lakshmanateertha water. Average rainfall recorded in Kodagu district in the last 24 hours was 64.88 mm and the total rainfall recorded from January to July 30 is 1433.07 mm as against last year’s average of 2103.41 mm in the corresponding period.. Average rainfall recorded in Madikeri taluk in the last 24 hours was 78.70 mm for a total of 1,974.11 mm this year against last year’s tally of 2,758.66 mm. Average rainfall registered in Virajpet taluk in the last 24 hours was 59.02 mm for a total of 1261.54 mm this year against last year’s tally of 2095.09 mm. Somwarpet taluk recorded an average of 56.92 mm in the last 24 hours for a total of 1063.55 mm. Last year’s tally was 1456.49 mm. The level of Harangi reservoir on Thursday stood at 2,857.41 feet as against its maximum of 2,859 feet, an official press release said here. Inflow was 12,857 cusecs and it was 1,515 cusecs in the same period last year. As much as 12,196 cusecs is being let out into the river.
