Letters to the Editor
In view of the report that fresh firing between Indian and Pakistani troops took place on the Line of Control less than 24 hours after the commanders of the two armies met in an effort to end the clashes, the editorial “Arrest this negative trend” (July 31) could not have been better timed. As India does not have a track record of being aggressive even under provocation, Pakistan cannot accuse India of building forward observation posts with an aggressive intent. With true democracy still being out of Pakistan’s reach and the failure of its government to rein in the Inter-Services Intelligence, it is little wonder that ceasefire violations on the LoC have alarmingly escalated and created major cracks in the fragile Indo-Pakistan peace process. Nalini Vijayaraghavan, Thiruvananthapuram A. Rama Krishna Vidhatha, Secunderabad
