Letters to the Editor
The people of Surat deserve praise for helping the police locate bombs in various places. So do the bomb disposal squads which defused more than 20 live bombs. I was amazed to see the image of a bomb placed on the road, with the person engaged in defusing it stooping over it. There were onlookers, including police personnel, on the scene. Both these situations are potentially dangerous. There is no guarantee that a live bomb will not explode in the process of being defused. It is unsafe for a person to stoop over it, even if he is wearing a bullet-proof jacket. Curious people too should know that an accidental explosion can cause injuries and even lead to fatalities.
