Policemen injured as station roof caves in
Staff Reporter
KOLKATA: Five policemen were injured, among them two critically, when the ceiling of two rooms at the Park Street police station in the central part of the city caved in the morning.
The ceilings of the two adjacent rooms, which were already lying in a dilapidated condition, collapsed around 11.30 a.m.
Two of the persons who received head injuries have been admitted in a private hospital nearby, while the other three with minor injuries have been discharged. Mr Rajesh Subarno DC South , confirmed the incidents.
The damaged part of the building had been declared unsafe by the state PWD department.
However although the façade of the 100-year old police station had been spruced up, little attention was given to its rear portion.
State Fire Minister Pratim Mukherjee also visited the spot, which is in the middle of one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city.
