Kolkata: The West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Thursday adopted a motion to register its protest against the reported move by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha to carve out a greater Jharkhand by annexing three districts of West Bengal — Purulia, Bankura and West Medinipur with itself. The motion came through a notice under rule 185 issued by the Left Front. Pointing out that the reported move smacked of efforts by a regional party to exploit the current state of uncertainty in the national political scenario, the motion said that such moves would disrupt the country’s unity. The motion also said that any effort to shift the headquarters of Coal India Ltd. and the Damodar Valley Corporation (which is co-owned by the State governments of West Bengal , Jharkhand and the Centre) to Ranchi will also be blocked by the people . Congress MLA M. Bhuiyan said that the party would join protests by the Left Front on these issues. The Trinamool Congress however remarked that the State was now wakening up to such efforts after many such departments have been shifted away from the State.
