Rebati discharged suddenly

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Unable to handle the raging controversy arising out of professional rivalry and the unethical practice of blood sample theft from the hospital, the SCB medical college and hospital authorities hurriedly discharged the tribal girl Rebati Kahnra from the hospital on Thursday after giving her a cosmetic makeup.

The 14-year-old girl was coxed to come from a remote village in Boudh district to the hospital for treatment of her unusual hereditary problems. But instead of giving her proper treatment to remove the hereditary disorder, the overzealous doctors of the hospital were soon engaged in

uncharacteristic fights leading to registration of a police case, transfer of a staff nurse and issuance of show-cause notice to a doctor.

Amid all these controversies, the poor tribal girl and her father were the worst sufferers. Rebati’s father Balakrushna was so upset that he even filed a police complaint alleging that the doctors were trying to use them as guinea pigs and are making an attempt to compare them with animals.

Balakrushna later however, was forced to withdraw his police complaint. But what has now baffled the conscious citizens that Rebati was discharged from the hospital in a more controversial situation on Thursday. While the hospital superintendent Dr. D.N. Moharana, who was supervising the entire treatment aspect of Rebati, claims that the girl was discharged from the hospital after her entire disorders were rectified, the treating doctor Suryakant Narendra gives a different view. Speaking to The Hindu, Moharana on Thursday said at least ten surgical corrections were done on Rebati’s jaws with removal of facial bone anomalies. “She even underwent laser treatment for removal of unwanted hairs from her body”, Moharana claimed. But Narendra pointed out that only seven surgeries were performed on the girl to remove about 6 cm of gingival growth. “Hairs from her body were removed by bleaching treatment and the mandibular hyperplasia has not been rectified yet,” Narendra said.
