BANGALORE: As part of the Parliamentary education programme, the students of Bangalore Public School, Indiranagar, visited Vidhana Soudha recently. For the students of classes IX and X, the visit was a huge learning experience. They witnessed the actions of the elected representatives when the Assembly was in session and enjoyed the debate between the ruling party members and the Opposition. “It was a hot debate on shortage of fertilizers and we could hear the thumping of desks and see members rushing to the well of the House often.”said Aishwarya Kamal, a student. They met Robinson D’Souza, the secretary of the Legislature and learnt about the composition of the Legislature from him. The students also saw the Legislative Council in action and took photographs with the MLAs. Sports meetHoly Cross School, Whitefield, held its annual sports meet recently. The meet was marked by colourful drill displays and various track and field events. Srinivas Reddy, chairman of Nerige village panchayat, declared the sports meet open and administered the oath to the students. T. Jayappa, senior scientist, Central Silk Board gave away the prizes to the winners. Principal John Joseph welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests. ‘Rhyme Time’The junior, nursery and opportunity sections of Baldwin Girls’ High School, Richmond Road, recently conducted “Rhyme Time”, a recitation programme. The children’s performance took the members of the audience down memory lane as they too joined the children in reciting the rhymes. InauguratedThe new building of the high school section of St. Martin’s High School, Magadi Road, was inaugurated recently. Govindaraj Nagar MLA V. Somanna inaugurated the building, while Vijayanagar MLA Krishnappa unveiled the “Kuvempu Kalamandira”. Gandhinagar MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao unfurled the school flag. Principal Uma Nagesh welcomed the gathering and introduced the guests, while Lieutenant. Col. Nagesh, secretary of the institution, proposed a vote of thanks . THE HINDU NIE TEAM
