250 houses funded by Maharashtra government Houses built at Beemapally will be over by September THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh will hand over keys to houses funded by the Maharashtra government as part of tsunami relief in Kerala in the second week of August. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran said here on Thursday that 115 of the 250 houses funded by Maharashtra at Alappad in Kollam district had been completed. The Minister said that Rs.9 crore of the Rs.12 crore provided by the Maharashtra government had been earmarked for the housing project. Review meetingAddressing a meeting of higher officials convened to discuss the progress of the tsunami rehabilitation programme, Mr. Rajendran said the land for building 2,003 houses in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts had been acquired. The construction of these houses would begin in August along with that of the remaining houses at Alappad. He said that the Arattupuzha panchayat has been granted permission for building 1,650 houses in the panchayat in Alappuzha district. The construction would be inaugurated on August 18. He said that the keys of the houses under construction at Beemapally here would be completed by September. Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan would hand over the keys on September 10.
