BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday set aside an order of the State Government removing the chairman of the Karnataka State Haj Committee from the post. Justice N. Kumar passed the order on a petition by Zulfikhar Ahmed Khan who had challenged his removal from the post, saying that no personal hearing had been given. He said the Government had arbitrarily passed an order removing him from the post. He urged the court to quash the notification removing him as chairman. Justice N. Kumar allowed the petition and set aside the removal of Mr. Khan as chairman. He, however, gave liberty to the State Government to give Mr. Khan a personal hearing before passing any order. A Division Bench of the High Court on Wednesday disposed of a habeas corpus petition by a software engineer seeking a direction to the police to trace his wife, who he claimed was in illegal confinement. The petitioner Mohit Mohan said he is working in IBM India. He had married Shrutha Rokhade, and he claimed her parents were against the marriage. He said Shrutha was in illegal confinement since July 26. He asked the court to direct the police to trace her. When the matter came up, Shrutha was produced before the court. When she informed the court that she wanted to join Mohit, the court permitted her to go with her husband.
