CHENNAI: It is planned to install jammers in the Puzhal prison, according to Director General of Police K.P. Jain. Talking to reporters here on Thursday, he said the police had successfully thwarted a planned attack with the arrest of a fundamentalist in Tirunelveli on Sunday. A vigilance committee had been formed in the Puzhal prison to monitor the use of SIM cards. Asked whether sleeper cells were active in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Jain replied in the negative. He ruled out links between fundamentalists in Tamil Nadu and those in the north. About the arrest of Daniel aka Thambi Annan of Kilinochi by the ‘Q’ Branch police in the city on Wednesday, Mr. Jain said he was working under the direct control of Soosai, leader of the Sea Tigers. He was assigned the job of procuring swimming materials, boat, communication equipment and explosives from Tamil Nadu. Border vigilance panelHe said last week, a co-ordination committee meeting was held with the State Forest Department, where it was decided to form a Border Village Vigilance Committee. The Police Department would train anti-poaching staff of the Forest Department in intelligence preparation, information gathering etc. The training would be imparted at the Mangalapatti camp of the Special Task Force in Erode district. Mr. Jain said at the Southern States’ DGPs conference held in Chennai last week, it was decided to hold the conference once a year. Heads of CB CID of the States would meet once in six months.
